New Delhi: The Indian government has clarified that it has no involvement in the proposed media event related to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, scheduled to take place in New Delhi on August 5.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the programme is being organised by a private media entity and does not reflect the government’s views.
Addressing the media, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The interaction you refer to is being organised by a private media entity. The government has no involvement whatsoever in it. Neither does it endorse any views that may be expressed at the forum.”
The clarification comes after Bangladesh raised concerns that Sheikh Hasina’s proposed virtual address could affect the recent improvement in bilateral ties. Separately, the MEA confirmed that Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited for a bilateral visit to India and has also received an invitation to attend the outreach session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi in his capacity as the current BIMSTEC Chair.
Bangladesh has said the invitation has been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office for consideration.
