An Indian fishing vessel carrying 13 crew members collided with an Indian Navy submarine off the Goa coast, according to officials. The Indian Navy has launched a major search and rescue operation, deploying six ships and aircraft. While 11 of the crew members have been rescued, two are still missing.
The collision occurred between the fishing vessel, Marthoma, and a Scorpene-class submarine approximately 70 nautical miles from the Goa coast, as stated by the Ministry of Defence.
“Search and rescue efforts for the remaining two are underway and are being coordinated with Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Mumbai (MRCC). Additional assets including from the Coast Guard have been diverted to the area to augment the efforts,” the statement read.
The cause of the incident is being investigated,” it added.
