New Delhi: Indore emerged as the frontrunner in the National Smart Cities category at the Indian Smart Cities Conclave 2023 held in Indore on Wednesday. Adding to the laurels, Madhya Pradesh clinched the title of ‘Best State’ at the event.
The event was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and President Droupadi Murmu. President Murmu honoured the winners of the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) 2022. ISAC completed its fourth successful edition and has been organised under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs “Smart Cities Mission.”
Addressing the event, President Murmu extended her congratulations and said, “I extend my hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the residents of the state, the Governor, the Chief Minister and his entire team on Madhya Pradesh achieving the distinction of ‘Best State’ in the India Smart Cities Awards Contest 2022. I appreciate the people associated with the work being done in all the smart cities of the state.”
“I am happy that Indore has maintained its position as the cleanest city in India. Indore is now at the top among the smart cities in the country. I appreciate all the residents of Indore, public representatives, administration officials, concerned departments of the Central Government and all other stakeholders,” she added.
President Murmu highlighted the G20’s emphasis on Urban Development. She also underlined the significance of Urban 20—a sub-group of the G20 efforts to establish sustainable connectivity between cities.
“Through this, a collective message was also given that the management of cities has an important role in pursuing the priority of sustainable development. Therefore, we should learn from the best practices and business models of the world’s best-managed cities and also share our successful efforts with other countries. Collaboration at local and global levels is essential for overall and sustainable development,” she said.
