IndiGo has become the first Indian airline to introduce non-stop flights between Chennai and Réunion Island, a French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean. The new service began on April 29 and will operate three times a week using Airbus A320 aircraft.
According to the airline’s schedule, flight 6E 1871 departs Chennai every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 12:20 pm, arriving in Réunion Island at 5:10 pm. The return flight, 6E 1872, leaves the island at 6:10 pm on the same days and reaches Chennai at 2:10 am the following day.
The route is expected to strengthen links between India and Réunion Island, where nearly 3,00,000 people of Indian origin live, making up over one-third of the island’s population. The connection is expected to support tourism, trade, family visits, and access to India for medical, wellness, and religious travel.
Réunion Island is known for its natural beauty, including volcanic mountains, rainforests, beaches, and UNESCO-recognised heritage sites. IndiGo said the new route expands travel opportunities while improving convenience for both leisure and business travellers.
