New Delhi: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has extended Independence Day greetings to India, highlighting the long-standing ties between the two countries and their importance in strengthening bilateral relations.

Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to expand comprehensive cooperation with India and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to take more effective steps to strengthen relations between the two countries and secure the common interests of the two nations, in light of mutual trust and respect and by utilising the extensive existing capacities.”
He also wished India continued progress, prosperity and happiness, while expressing hope that the historic relationship between the two countries would grow stronger.
Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal thanked the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan, Guatemala and Peru for their Independence Day greetings to India.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also conveyed his wishes in a letter, recalling India’s difficult journey towards freedom and describing Independence as the beginning of a hopeful new chapter.
India received greetings from several countries as it marked Independence Day.
