JNU rape case: Court to hear anticipatory bail plea on Aug 27

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) The anticipatory bail plea ofAnmol Ratan, accused of raping a 28-year-old JNU student in auniversity hostel room, today came up before a Delhi courtwhich decided to hear it on Saturday. The petition was filed before Additional Sessions JudgeAmit Bansal who put up the matter for arguments on the nextdate of hearing on August 27. Police claimed a first-year Ph.D student had alleged thatRatan, also a JNU student, raped her on August 20. According to her complaint filed at Vasant Kunj (North)police station, she had posted on her Facebook account thatshe wanted to watch a movie and asked if anyone had its CD. It said Ratan apparently messaged her saying he had acopy. Thereafter, he picked her up yesterday on the pretext ofgiving her a CD of the film and took her to BrahamputraHostel, where he stays. She alleged that he offered her a spiked drink and rapedher. He also threatened her and asked her not to report thematter, she said. However, the woman approached the police on August 21 anda case of rape was registered and further probe is underway. Students body AISA has claimed that it has taken strongnote of the allegations and has expelled Ratan from itsmembership. PTI UKARC
