A major joint operation by the Indian Army’s Romeo Force and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police is currently underway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Security forces have cordoned off the hilly forest region of Pathanateer in the Mendhar sector, where terrorists are believed to be hiding.
The operation follows a recent encounter in the Kalaban area near Pathanateer, where a gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists. The situation remains tense as the forces intensify their efforts to neutralize the threat.
These operations come just days after a tragic encounter in the Kishtwar district, where two army soldiers were killed during a fierce gunbattle with terrorists.
Further details are awaited.
