Karan Singh meets Guv, discusses turmoil in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 2 (PTI) Senior Congress leader and MP KaranSingh today met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra anddiscussed various issues including steps needed to be taken torestore peace and normalcy in the state. Singh, the son of the last king of Kashmir – Hari Singh,met Vohra at Raj Bhavan here and they discussed issuesrelating to the prevailing unrest and the steps which wererequired to be taken for the restoration of peace and normalcyin the state, an official statement said. The Rajya Sabha member, who arrived here yesterday, saidthe situation in the Valley had pained him and he had come toshare the pain of the people. "I wanted to come early but there was curfew here. I havecome here to share the pain of the people. I am pained by thesituation since the last two months. Many youth have lostlife, hundreds have been injured, and business and tourismhave come to a standstill," he told reporters here yesterday. Kashmir is the boil since July 9, a day after the killingof Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Seventy people have been killed and thousands injured inthe widespread clashes between the protesters and lawenforcing agencies. Normal life has also been paralysed. Meanwhile, Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)and Civil Defence Archana Ramasundram also met the Governor atthe Raj Bhavan and briefed him about the SSB’s deployment andinternal security duties in the Valley. They also discussed issues relating to security managementand the need to strengthen Civil Defence in the state, thespokesman said. PTI MIJ MRJ RGMRJ
