In a significant development, the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has called off its nationwide indefinite strike following a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday. The strike had started following the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

- After calling off the strike, FORDA President Aviral Mathur stated, “We just met Union Minister JP Nadda at his residence and presented our reformulated demands to him. He assured us that he would ensure a safe working environment for doctors and that our demands would be addressed in a time-bound manner. A committee will be formed, and we will be a part of it. With all our demands accepted, FORDA is now calling off the strike.”

- The strike had led to the shutdown of outpatient departments (OPDs), operation theatres, and ward duties across the country, though emergency services continued to function.
- The Calcutta High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take charge of the investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
- The court has instructed the local police to immediately transfer all relevant documents and evidence to the CBI by 10 AM on Wednesday.
