As outrage continues to mount over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, several protests unfolded across West Bengal on Wednesday. In a show of solidarity, demonstrators across the state participated in a “lights out” protest, turning off their lights from 9 PM to 10 PM.

Junior doctors at state-run hospitals spearheaded the protest, urging the public to join in by switching off lights and lighting candles or diyas during the designated hour.
