Lights Out In Kolkata As Protests Erupt Over RG Kar Rape and Murder Case

As outrage continues to mount over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, several protests unfolded across West Bengal on Wednesday. In a show of solidarity, demonstrators across the state participated in a “lights out” protest, turning off their lights from 9 PM to 10 PM.

Junior doctors at state-run hospitals spearheaded the protest, urging the public to join in by switching off lights and lighting candles or diyas during the designated hour.


The Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the West Bengal Governor, also took part in the protest.

Governor CV Ananda Bose supported the demonstration by turning off the lights and lighting a candle in solidarity with the victims and protestors.

In Kolkata, a candle march was organized at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, where participants gathered to mourn and protest the recent tragic event.

Additionally, a massive rally took place at Shyam Bazaar, reflecting the widespread outrage and demand for justice.
