Lucknow: A social media influencer was found dead at her in-laws’ home in Lucknow in a suspected dowry harassment case, with her family alleging that she was murdered and later hanged to stage it as suicide.
The victim, Mansi from Kanpur, had married social media influencer Sagar Rajput on December 9, 2024. According to the FIR, Rajput has nearly 7.93–8 lakh followers on Instagram.
Her family stated that they had given around ₹7 lakh in cash along with household items as gifts during the wedding, but her in-laws were allegedly dissatisfied and continued to demand additional dowry, including a car.
The family further alleged that Mansi was subjected to repeated physical and mental harassment by her husband Sagar Rajput, father-in-law Rajesh, brother-in-law Anu, sisters-in-law Barkha and Chandni, and aunt-in-law Asha.
They claimed she informed them multiple times about the abuse, and they had intervened on several occasions, but the harassment continued.
On Saturday, the family was informed of her death, which in-laws claimed was a suicide. However, they alleged it was a planned murder staged to look like suicide.
Police in Lucknow’s Saadatganj area have registered a dowry death case against six accused, including Rajput, who is currently in custody and being interrogated. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and investigation is underway.
The case comes amid rising scrutiny of dowry-related deaths across India, including recent high-profile cases under investigation.
