As the alliance gears up to take office, leadership talks have taken center stage. Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar held discussions with BJP President J.P. Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday. The talks focused on finalizing the power-sharing arrangement and determining the next Chief Minister.
Shinde, who submitted his resignation earlier this week, expressed unwavering support for the BJP’s leadership in choosing the next CM.
The BJP, along with Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), secured a thumping majority in the November 20 elections, clinching 230 out of 288 seats. While the BJP emerged as the dominant force with 132 seats, Shinde’s Sena won 57, and Pawar’s NCP claimed 41.
The Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a crushing defeat, with the Congress managing only 16 seats, Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena (UBT) winning 20, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction (SP) restricted to 10.
