Maithili Thakur Joins BJP Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

Date:

Patna: Celebrated folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, marking her entry into active politics ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Her induction took place in Patna, in the presence of state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal, adding a cultural and emotional resonance to the party’s campaign.

According to reports, Thakur may be fielded from the Alinagar constituency in the Darbhanga region, a seat currently held by Mishrilal Yadav, whose candidature may be dropped this time.

Thakur’s move comes days after her meeting with BJP election in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai, which had already sparked speculation about her joining the saffron party. Sharing images from their meeting, Tawde praised Thakur’s decision to “return to Bihar” as a sign of faith in the state’s development under the current government.

He noted, “The family that left Bihar during the Lalu era in 1995 its daughter, Maithili Thakur, now wishes to return, inspired by a changing Bihar.”

With her entry, the BJP gains not only a popular cultural figure but also a strong voice rooted in Bihar’s traditions, potentially appealing to the state’s youth and rural electorate.
