Major Traffic Curbs In Delhi For Friday Ahead of India-Russia Summit

Date:

New Delhi: Commuters in the national capital are likely to face significant delays on Friday, as the Delhi Traffic Police announced major traffic restrictions across central parts of the city. The curbs, described as necessary due to “administrative exigencies,” will remain in force from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon.

A detailed advisory issued on Thursday stated that vehicular movement will be heavily regulated around several high-traffic stretches, including W Point, A Point, ITO Chowk, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Rajghat Crossing, Delhi Gate, Shanti Van Crossing, JLN Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, Hanuman Setu–Y Point, IP Marg, Nishad Raj Marg, Vikas Marg, and routes linked to the Saleem Garh Flyover and Pragati Maidan Tunnel.

Commuters have been urged to avoid these corridors during the restricted window and take alternate routes to prevent traffic build-up.

Along with route diversions, strict parking controls will also be enforced. Parking will only be permitted in designated spaces, while key stretches, including BSZ Marg, Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg, and portions of Ring Road spanning Hanuman Setu, Shanti Van, Rajghat, IP Flyover, and the Pragati Maidan Tunnel, have been marked as no-parking zones. Any unauthorised vehicles found parked along these roads will be towed and penalised, the advisory warned.

The Traffic Police has also recommended that travellers stay connected to official updates for real-time alerts on movement restrictions throughout the day.

The clampdown comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in New Delhi for a two-day state visit. The Russian leader is scheduled to participate in the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 5, prompting heightened security and administrative measures in the capital.
