The protest was organised by the Kalighat Trinamool over the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, located in South 24 Parganas district.
A video from the scene showed a chaotic situation as party workers gathered near Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. She was holding a megaphone and attempting to bring the crowd under control.
During the commotion, a male party worker appeared to be assisting by keeping protesters back and clearing a path for Mamata Banerjee. However, amid the confusion, she slapped the worker and signalled him to move away.
The incident was captured on video and took place while the protest was underway near her residence.
