In a high-level press briefing this morning, senior Indian officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and armed forces confirmed a significant escalation in hostilities from Pakistan, which included a missile launch into Indian territory and widespread targeting of civilian infrastructure.
Col. Sofiya Qureshi, speaking on behalf of the Indian Army, confirmed that “Pakistan launched a high-speed missile into Punjab,” and accused Islamabad of “deliberately targeting Indian defence installations.” This marks one of the most direct and aggressive military actions from Pakistan in recent years.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the diplomatic implications of the incident, calling Pakistan’s actions “provocative and escalatory.” Despite the heightened tensions, Misri emphasised that “India has responded in a responsible manner,” underscoring New Delhi’s intention to maintain stability even in the face of aggression.
Air Force representative Wing Commander Vyomika Singh revealed that India has conducted “targeted strikes on Pakistani military assets in Rahim Yar Khan,” as part of a measured counter-response. Singh also stated that Pakistan had targeted 26 locations across India, including direct attacks on hospitals and school infrastructure in Srinagar, Awantipura, and Udhampur.
Additionally, Indian intelligence has confirmed that the Pakistani Army is moving troops toward forward positions, raising concerns about the potential for further escalation.
The MEA reiterated India’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and citizens while engaging with international partners to contain the situation diplomatically.
