Maharashtra: Milk prices are set to increase by Rs 2 per litre across the state from August 11, following a decision by the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by association president Gopalrao Mhaske, with representatives of major cooperative and private dairies approving the hike for both cow and buffalo milk.
The association said rising operational costs were behind the decision. According to the group, diesel prices have increased by Rs 10 per litre, while packaging costs have gone up by around 30 per cent. It also said the procurement cost of milk has increased and is expected to rise further.
In view of these higher expenses, the association approved a Rs 2 per litre increase in milk prices. Prices of dairy products are also set to rise by up to 10 per cent.
