Mixing Art, Space And A Bit Of Technology | This Assam Girl Is All Set To Send Her Illustration To The Moon!

Have you heard of a painting exhibition on the Moon? Well, this is very much possible. Priyanka Das Rajkakati from Assam is all set to get her artwork Bhedadipika an illustration of Duality projected on the surface of the Moon in a compact form by 2022.

Her art as she described is inspired by her Indian roots and the Vedic influence and is also a big part of her dual personality.

The artist says that it has been hard to understand the dual nature of her personality by herself and the people around her since childhood. She says her personality reflects the skills of both an artist and a scientist.

Priyanka spent her crucial years pursuing her career in IT, Biology and Physics. While studying Signal Processing, which is a big part of her PhD on satellite signals, she was fascinated by the patterns made by the original geometric signals and the noise that the signal accumulates.

She realised her mind kept returning to her artistic interests and this time she chose to follow her unique style of painting. Thus says, that it may be the first time a scientist may showcase her paintings.

She has been also selected for a two-week mission through European Space Agency to take part in an astronaut simulation. 27-year-old Priyanka is one of the six analogue astronauts for the third mission of EMMIHS-III and her mission started this Wednesday.

Priyanka was also among the 75 women selected for Homeward Bound, a global initiative that conducts leadership expeditions for women in science to Antarctica.

Priyanka recently featured in Forbes India’s 30 Under 30.

Priyanka will be working on several projects, one of them is to send her artwork to Moon:

The Moon Gallery by Art Moon Mars, is an international collaborative artwork, where a gallery is been created of ideas worth sending to the Moon. As it is highly expensive to send something to the Moon, these artists proposed to hence miniaturise the entire gallery.

Art Moon Mars was initiated by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) to set up the Committee for the Cultural Utilisation of Space (ITACCUS) to highlight the importance of artists with respect to space exploration.
