New Delhi: The mother of a 15-year-old girl who was booked for allegedly making abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a student protest has thanked the Prime Minister for forgiving her daughter, saying his decision gave the teenager a “new life” and a second chance.
According to the reports, the mother said PM Modi showed “greatness” by choosing forgiveness instead of retaliation after a viral video showed the girl using abusive language during a protest over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak at Jantar Mantar.
Calling the gesture the “greatest birthday gift” for her daughter, she urged the Prime Minister to facilitate the withdrawal of the FIR registered against the minor.
The girl, in a public apology video, admitted her mistake, saying she was influenced by people around her at the protest and expressed regret, calling it her “first and last mistake.” She apologised to the Prime Minister and the country.
A Zero FIR was initially registered by Noida Police and later transferred to Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi. Her mother claimed the FIR incorrectly mentioned her daughter’s name and age as 25 instead of 15.
The mother also appealed to the government to restrict social media access and participation in protests for minors, arguing that children are vulnerable to influence.
Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke questioned whether the cases against the girl would also be withdrawn following the Prime Minister’s appeal for forgiveness.
