MP Chief Minister Orders Ban On Loudspeakers At Religious, Public Places

Date:

New Delhi: In one of his first big decisions as the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav on Wednesday announced a ban on the use of loudspeakers at religious and public spaces.

Referring to a Supreme Court ruling from July 2005, the order limits the use of loudspeakers and music systems between 10 pm and 6 am at public places, except in cases of emergencies, highlighting the harmful effects of noise pollution on residents’ health. Further on October 28, 2005, the Supreme Court specified that loudspeakers could be allowed until midnight on festive occasions for 15 days annually.

Earlier on Wednesday, Mohan Yadav, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Ujjain South, took the oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office to the 58-year-old leader at the Lal Parade Ground in the state capital, Bhopal.
