Days after a vehicle with explosives was found near Reliance Industries Ltd’s chairman Mukesh Ambani residence ‘Antilia’ in Mumbai, police on Friday informed that the vehicle’s owner has committed suicide.
Briefing the media about the same, Thane DCP told reporters, “The body of one Mansukh Hiren whose car was found outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence (with gelatin inside it), died by suicide by jumping into Kalwa creek. Accidental Death Report (ADR) registered.”
Police officials fished out his body from the Mumbra creek in Thane. Police officials also found at least five handkerchiefs allegedly stuffed in Mansukh Hiren’s mouth.
He cannot die by suicide, said members of Mansukh Hiren’s family reacting to unconfirmed reports earlier that he could have taken his own life. Kin also said they knew that Mansukh was in Virar on Thursday night. On Friday afternoon his family members approached Naupada Police Station in Thane saying he had gone missing.
“Mansukh Hiren’s body was recovered from Mumbra creek. No injury marks were found on the body, post-mortem is being conducted,” Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said in the state Assembly on Friday.
The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) will probe Mansukh Hiren’s death, home minister Anil Deshmukh said.
Mansukh’s Scorpio with gelatin sticks inside was found near Antilia, Ambani’s multi-storey residence in South Mumbai, on February 25. Police had said it had been stolen from Airoli-Mulund Bridge on February 18.
