Mumbai: In view of the inclement weather, 50 flights were cancelled and several flights were diverted in Mumbai on Monday, according to Mumbai International Airport. Airport personnel and aviation officials have been deployed across the terminals to assist passengers.
According to a statement from the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), inclement weather at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on July 8, 2024, necessitated the temporary suspension of runway operations from 02:22 hrs to 03:40 hrs. During this period, CSMIA has deployed airport personnel across the terminals to assist passengers and ensure their comfort and safety.
Additionally, the Central Railways announced that due to the incessant rainfall which has caused water logging at various places, the train services on the main line-down & up fast line between CSMT-Thane are suspended. However, Down & Up slow lines are running. Harbour line services are temporarily suspended due to waterlogging at Chunnabhati.
BMC has also issued a helpline number 1916 for the residents of Mumbai to contact the Main Control Room of the BMC, for help and official information in case of requirement.

Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and the Konkan belt are under an orange alert, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The two locations in Vikhroli with the most rainfall in the previous 24 hours were Veer Savarkar Marg Municipal School and MCMCR Powai, with over 315 mm of rain falling there. There have been reports of water-logging from Vidyavihar Railway Station, Worli, Buntara Bhavan, Kurla East, King’s Circle, Mumbai, and Dadar.
Scheduled flights to land in Mumbai were rerouted to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Indore, among other locations. Arrivals were given priority, according to the airport officials, and departures were delayed as a result of adjustments made to accommodate diverted flights.
Travelers have been urged by the CSMIA to confirm the status of their flight beforehand. “Mumbai Airport advises all the passengers to check their flight status with their respective airlines and leave for the airport a little earlier, given the unfavorable weather and the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains,” CSMIA wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The BMC is using high capacity water pumps to drain water from railway tracks and the Central Railways staff is closely monitoring the situation. Many BEST buses have also been diverted from their regular route, BEST Bus Transport said.
