NEET UG 2024: SC Directs CBI To Submit Report On Leak, Next Hearing On July 11

Date:

The Supreme Court declared on Monday that the NEET UG case will next be heard on July 11. Today, approximately thirty petitions were being heard by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and consisting of two other Justices, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

The top court has ordered the CBI to provide a report detailing the investigation’s progress. Additionally, the judges ordered the NTA to notify them of the amount of time that passed between the question paper leak and the exam on May 5.

The top court ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to reveal the actions taken to identify the recipients of the leaked material, thereby confirming that the document had been leaked. Additionally, it suggested that the government make a policy choice about the availability of NEET counseling. It was instructed that the affidavits from the NTA, CBI, and the Center be turned in by Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The court ruled that some situations would be against a retest, notably “(if) the time lag between the leak and exam is limited”. “If students were asked to memorise (leaked questions) on the morning of the exam, the leak might not have been so widespread…” the court stated this morning.

Therefore, the three-judge panel led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stated that it was reluctant to order a retest for around 24 lakh students—many of whom are from low-income households and cannot afford to pay for their transportation to test locations—unless absolutely required. The “last option” is to retake the test, it claimed.

The next hearing on the NEET re-exam applications is set to happen on July 11.
