Ishita Jain of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh has beaten out nine other female finalists to win People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s ‘Cutest Vegetarian Next Door’ contest, with 2,330 votes.
The 24-year-old will be featured on PETA’s website and will receive a certificate, sash, trophy, a vegan starter kit and a DVD of “Glass Walls”, PETA said in a statement.
Jain was quoted as saying, “I have been a vegetarian all my life. I don’t want to kill someone just for taste”.
“Ishita is healthy, kind and caring, and that makes her even more attractive in our book”, says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta.
“Whether it’s to improve your health, fight pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions or save countless animals from the suffering and terror of factory farms and slaughterhouses, going vegetarian is always a winning proposition.”
Abhijit Waghmare of Ahmednagar is the male winner of the competition. Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count, the statement added.
