Netflix Assures The Govt To ‘Keep Sensitivities In Mind’ Amid The IC 814 Row

Date:

It’s been a week since the Netflix series IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack was released, and it seems the series continues to attract the government’s attention. The Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) met with representatives from the OTT platform on Tuesday, September 3, and the government was assured that “sensitivities” would be factored into future content.

Government sources told the news agency that the OTT platform has also promised to conduct a content review and guarantee that all future content on its platform will be sensitive to and in accordance with the nation’s sentiments.

Government sources explained to the media why the Netflix content head was summoned. “Nobody has the right to play with the sentiments of the people of this nation. India’s culture and civilization should always be respected. You should think before portraying something in a wrong manner. The govt is taking it very seriously.”

Earlier in the week, the central government summoned the content head of OTT platform over the series, which has triggered a debate over the depiction of hijackers, contending that nobody has the right to play with the sentiments of the nation.

Meanwhile, a PIL was also filed in the Delhi High Court on September 2 seeking a ban on OTT series. The plea alleged that the mini-series erroneously shows the real hijackers as having Hindu names, including ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’, the other names of Lord Shiva, which hurts the sentiments of the Hindu community.
