The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a heatwave affecting North India, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh, from June 8 to 12, 2025, with temperatures likely to exceed 40°C and possibly reach 45°C in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, eastern and southern India are expected to experience a different weather pattern, with enhanced rainfall and thunderstorms predicted.
From June 9, northeastern states such as Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to experience heavy rainfall, with the intensity decreasing after June 10, according to the IMD’s June 6 press release. South Peninsular India, including Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, expects isolated heavy falls starting June 11, driven by a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea. Thunderstorms with gusty winds (40–60 kmph) are likely in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha until June 9.
