Over 58 Lakh Voters Dropped From West Bengal Draft Electoral Roll

Date:

New Delhi: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal has published the list of deleted names from the state’s draft electoral roll for 2026 as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Official data shows that 5,820,898 pre-existing voters have been removed from the draft rolls.

The deletions were carried out for multiple reasons, including death, permanent relocation, duplication of entries and voters being untraceable at their registered addresses, officials said.

According to figures shared by the West Bengal CEO, over 24 lakh voters have been marked as deceased, while around 12 lakh names were categorised as “missing” after election officials failed to trace the individuals at the addresses listed in the electoral records.

Nearly 20 lakh voters were removed after being found to have permanently shifted out of their respective constituencies. Additionally, about 1.38 lakh names were deleted due to duplicate entries in the voter list. More than 57,000 voters were removed for reasons not specified under the major categories.

The Election Commission has clarified that voters who believe their names were wrongly deleted can seek correction. Affected individuals may file claims using Form 6, along with a declaration and supporting documents, after the publication of the Draft Roll 2026.

The window for filing claims and objections will remain open until January 15, 2026, after which the final electoral rolls will be published.
