Hours after agreeing to a full and immediate ceasefire following high-level diplomatic efforts, Pakistan launched a sudden offensive, targeting Jammu and Kashmir with heavy artillery and drones. The drones were intercepted by the Indian air defence system.
At a special press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned Pakistan’s actions, calling them a “serious breach” of trust and a violation of the commitment made earlier in the day to halt cross-border firing and military activity.
“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan,” Misri stated. “This is a breach of the understanding, and India takes very serious note of these violations. Our armed forces are responding adequately and appropriately.”

The ceasefire agreement was meant to bring a temporary halt to the escalating border hostilities in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, under which the Indian Army targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
India has now called on Pakistan to honour its commitments and handle the situation with “seriousness and responsibility.” Misri emphasized that the Indian Armed Forces have been instructed to maintain a heightened state of readiness and to respond forcefully to any further provocations along both the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).
“Our forces are maintaining a strong vigil. Any repetition of violations will be dealt with firmly,” Misri reiterated.
