Periasamy Kumaran Takes Charge As Secretary (East) In Ministry of External Affairs

Date:

New Delhi: Periasamy Kumaran (IFS: 1992) assumed charge as the new Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs on April 1, 2025. His appointment follows the retirement of Jaideep Mazumdar (IFS: 1989), who superannuated on March 31, 2025.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had earlier approved Kumaran’s elevation from his role as Special Secretary in the Ministry. A career diplomat with over three decades of service, Kumaran brings a wealth of experience to the position, having held several important assignments in Indian missions abroad and at the MEA headquarters.

Known for his strategic acumen and diplomatic expertise, Kumaran takes over at a pivotal time as India continues to strengthen its engagement with countries in the Indo-Pacific and Southeast Asia — regions under the purview of the Secretary (East).
