Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting at his official residence on Saturday evening, following a significant diplomatic breakthrough between India and Pakistan that led to a mutual ceasefire agreement. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

This comes hours after both nations agreed to suspend all military operations, including artillery shelling, naval patrols, and airspace intrusions — bringing a temporary halt to escalating hostilities triggered by India’s recent strikes under Operation Sindoor.
Earlier in a press brief, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) initiated contact with his Indian counterpart earlier in the day. Both sides reached an understanding to cease all forms of military engagement effective from 5:00 PM IST on Saturday.
Misri stated that clear instructions have been issued to enforce the ceasefire along the Line of Control, the international border, and in maritime zones. A follow-up round of DGMO-level talks is scheduled for May 12 at noon to solidify communication mechanisms and avoid future flare-ups, he added.
The ceasefire comes days after India launched a precision military offensive targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes significantly heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
