Netherland: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday outlined four major ambitions for India during an address to the Indian diaspora in The Hague, saying the country aims to host the Olympics, become a global manufacturing and green energy hub, and emerge as a key driver of world economic growth.
Speaking during his two-day visit to the Netherlands, Modi said India’s “unlimited aspirations and limitless efforts” are shaping the vision of a developed nation under “Viksit Bharat”. He highlighted India’s rapid rise in technology, AI, semiconductors, defence and space sectors, noting that the country is now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem with over two lakh startups.
Modi said 12 semiconductor plants are under development, with production already underway at two facilities.
The Prime Minister also stressed India’s green energy push, stating that some of the world’s largest solar parks are being built in the country.
India’s installed solar energy capacity has reportedly grown from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 150.26 GW in 2026, while the country recently became the world’s third-largest renewable energy producer.
Reiterating India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics, Modi called for stronger sports ties with the Netherlands in hockey and cricket. During the visit, he is also scheduled to meet Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
