Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday to review the escalating situation in West Asia, with a key focus on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to ensure stability in the region and guarantee safe navigation through the strategic waterway. The call was initiated by President Macron, and both sides agreed to continue working together to support peace and regional security.
Earlier this week, PM Modi also spoke with US President Donald Trump in a 40-minute call, where they discussed the ongoing tensions and the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. The leaders also reviewed progress in India-US ties and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across sectors.
India has consistently pushed for dialogue and diplomacy to ease tensions. Officials have reiterated that disruptions to commercial shipping are unacceptable, especially as the Strait handles a significant share of global oil and gas trade.
The situation has already impacted energy markets, with prices rising following restrictions on maritime movement in the region.
