New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Saturday, marking the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The Prime Minister described the occasion as a “moment of pride” and lauded the contributions of the framers of the Constitution while emphasizing India’s deep-rooted democratic heritage.
In his speech, PM Modi highlighted the foresight of the Constitution’s drafters, including Dr. BR Ambedkar and Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He stressed that they did not see democracy as a modern concept limited to 1950 but as an idea embedded in India’s cultural and historical legacy spanning thousands of years.
“Constitution makers were aware. They didn’t believe that India was born in 1947, that democracy in India started in 1950. They believed in the great tradition and culture here, they believed in the great heritage, in the thousands of years of the joruney,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to India’s unity, defending the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. “Article 370 was an obstacle to India’s unity, and that’s why we removed it,” he stated.
Turning his attention to Congress, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on the party and its leadership. He accused Congress of undermining the Constitution during the Emergency in 1975, describing the period as one where “the country was turned into a jailhouse.” He also took aim at the Gandhi family, claiming they ruled the country for 55 of the last 75 years and engaged in dirty politics that hurt democratic values.
