Pakistan alleged that its missile strikes targeted and damaged the runway at the Indian Air Force base in Adampur, Punjab, rendering it inoperable for a year. It claimed that its China-manufactured JF-17 fighter jets destroyed India’s Russian-made S-400 missile defense system stationed at the base.

But Prime Minister Modi’s surprise visit to Punjab’s Adampur airbase on Tuesday proved all the allegations wrong. One prominent image that stood out from the rest demolished Pakistan’s disinformation campaign in one stroke. It showed PM Modi waving at the jawans, with a Mig-29 jet and an intact S-400 air defence system clearly visible in the background.

This is possibly the first publicly released image of an S-400 missile defence system, which is hailed as one of the best in the world. India has three squadrons, with two more to come.
During his early morning visit, the Prime Minister interacted with the air force personnel at the airbase, which had been in the thick of action, thwarting drone and missile strikes by Pakistan.
PM also tweeted from his official X handle. It read, “Earlier this morning, I went to Air Force Station (AFS) Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation,” the Prime Minister said on X.”

Pakistan targeted multiple Indian military bases, including Adampur in Punjab, Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, and installations in Rajasthan and Gujarat, as well as civilian areas in Punjab’s Ferozepur, on the nights of May 9–10, 2025, in retaliation for India’s Operation Sindoor. The operation, launched on May 7, was India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The Indian armed forces reported that the damage from Pakistan’s attacks was minimal, with air defense systems effectively countering the assaults.
