A 29-year-old woman, Nasreen Ameer Qureshi from Warje, Pune, was rescued after falling into a deep gorge in Maharashtra’s Satara district on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at Borne Ghat, near Thoseghar waterfalls, reportedly while Qureshi was taking a selfie with her friends amid heavy rains.
The accident happened around 5:30 PM when Qureshi lost her footing and fell approximately 100 feet into the gorge. Immediate action by local villagers, Home Guards along with officials from the Tosheghar Forest Management Committee and the Satara Rural Police, led to her successful rescue. Videos capturing the rescue operation have since gone viral on social media, showing the rescuers throwing a thick rope down the gorge and a man descending to lift Qureshi to safety.

“She sustained injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Her condition is stable now,” confirmed a police official.
This incident comes mere weeks after a similar tragedy involving 26-year-old Instagram influencer Aanvi Kamdar, who fell to her death while filming near Kumbhe waterfall in Raigad. Kamdar, a chartered accountant from Mumbai, had been on a trip with friends when she slipped into a 300-foot-deep gorge. Following her death, local authorities issued advisories urging tourists to avoid risky behaviors while exploring natural landscapes.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde released a statement urging vigilance in the wake of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) warning of continued heavy rainfall in Pune and surrounding districts. Authorities have been instructed to ensure the safety of residents, especially those in low-lying areas such as Ekta Nagar, Dattwadi, Patil Estate, Yerwada, Shivaji Nagar, the court area, Kamgar Putla, Harris Bridge, and Dapodi.
