New Delhi: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of avoiding Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session, alleging that he was “guilty of wrongdoing” against students.
In a post on X, Gandhi claimed the Home Minister was staying away from Parliament over the issue of the alleged police action against students during the July 20 protests in Delhi.
“The country’s Home Minister is hiding his face because he is guilty of wrongdoing against the students,” Gandhi said.
The Opposition has been consistently raising the issue of the Delhi Police’s alleged action against students protesting at Jantar Mantar during the July 20 Sansad Chalo march organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Wednesday shortly after proceedings began as Opposition members continued their protests.
Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the Opposition’s demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah make statements in Parliament.
“We demand that Prime Minister Modi Ji and Home Minister Amit Shah come to the House. They should give their statement; we are ready to discuss. The solution will emerge only through discussion,” Kharge said.
“It has been quite a few days since the House convened. They should come; by not coming to the House, they are insulting Parliament,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several Opposition MPs marched from the Gandhi statue at Prerna Sthal to Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex, protesting against the alleged police action on CJP protesters, the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and other issues.
