Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday welcomed the resolution between protesting students and the Jharkhand government, after student leader Devendra Nath Mahto ended his hunger strike following talks with the state government.
In a post on X, Gandhi said the agreement demonstrated the importance of dialogue when students raise genuine concerns.
“Chief Minister Hemant Soren ji and the Jharkhand government chose the path of dialogue and arrived at a solution. The students exercised restraint and made their point heard,” Gandhi said.
Mahto ended his hunger strike at Sadar Hospital in Ranchi in the presence of Jharkhand Ministers Dipika Pandey Singh and Irfan Ansari after Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination and examinations conducted by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL).
Gandhi said the resolution in Jharkhand should pave the way for broader reforms in the country’s competitive examination system.
“We stand with every student in the country. And we will uproot and transform this recovery system – so that every student gets the full reward of their hard work and the right to fair competition,” he said.
Meanwhile, the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination has triggered another round of protests, with several candidates who had already been appointed demonstrating outside Project Bhawan in Ranchi.
The appointed candidates demanded clarity on their employment status, arguing that they had cleared the competitive examination and received joining orders before the government’s cancellation decision.
The protests come after the Jharkhand Cabinet decided to cancel activities associated with TDPL, including examinations, published results and candidate selections.
