Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday questioned the Election Commission over changes related to Form 6, used for registering new voters, amid the ongoing controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Questioning the Election Commission’s decision, Gandhi asked, “Who at the ECI ordered to make that change?” He also sought to know who approved the modification and questioned the role of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the process.
The issue relates to an additional declaration linked to the SIR exercise that was incorporated into the online voter registration process. The provision sought details about whether an applicant, or their parents or grandparents, appeared in an earlier SIR electoral roll.
The Election Commission has maintained that Form 6 itself was not modified and that the SIR-related requirement was introduced separately through an additional declaration.
Gandhi’s remarks come amid a broader political dispute between the opposition and the Election Commission over the SIR exercise and electoral roll revisions.
