Chennai: Tamil Nadu has had continuous rainfall in many of its districts for the last few days. Azhiyar in Coimbatore recorded the highest rainfall of 15 cm in the last 24 hours.
As per the Regional Meteorological Centre Thirumoorthi Dam and Amaravathy Dam–both in Tiruppur district, received 14 cm and 12 cm rainfall, respectively, in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am Wednesday. Many places in districts including Kanyakumari, Coimbatore and Sivaganga received sharp showers.
The weather office has said that Tamil Nadu will receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Virudhunagar districts on Thursday. Heavy rains are also likely to occur at isolated places over Madurai, Dindigul, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Thoothukudi districts, it added.
The RMC issued a warning to fishermen on May 23 stating that squally conditions with wind gust up to 70 kmph were likely to prevail over the Southeast and East Central Bay of Bengal. It is anticipated that squally conditions with wind gusts of up to 65 kmph will be prevalent along and off the coast of Kerala, over the Comorin Area, the Gulf of Mannar, the adjacent south coast of Tamil Nadu, and the south and central Bay of Bengal. “Fishermen are advised not to venture into the above-sea areas,” it added.
