New Delhi: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, and a convict in a rape case, is set to be released from prison for a period of 21 days. This follows a previous instance in February when he was granted a three-week furlough.
Parole involves the temporary or early release of a prisoner based on specific conditions and good conduct commitments. While, a furlough is a brief, temporary release of inmates from jail.
In this interim period, the controversial leader, currently held at Sunaria jail in Haryana, will be staying at an ashram located in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.
After a dispute arose regarding the 40-day parole granted to Ram Rahim in January, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the Dera Sacha Sauda chief had the right to parole if all procedures were followed.
Within the same parole duration, Ram Rahim was observed “celebrating” by cutting a cake with a sword, attracting attention and sparking controversy.
