The counting of votes for Haryana is underway, and the BJP is well above the halfway mark. They are aiming for their third consecutive win in the state.
Savitri Jindal is leading after the first round. She is fighting against BJP’s Kamal Gupta from the Hisar Assembly segment. Forbes India listed Savitri Jindal as the richest woman in the country, with a net worth of $39.5 billion, and she is contesting independently from Hisar.
The 50th richest person in the world filed her nomination from Hisar on September 12. Soon after filing her nomination, the 74-year-old was quoted as saying, “I have pledged to serve Hisar for its development and transformation. The people of Hisar are my family, and Om Prakash Jindal had established my relationship with this family.”
Savitri Jindal’s Assets
The wife of industrialist OP Jindal, Savitri, declared movable assets worth ₹190 crores in her affidavit that she filed and her immovable assets, according to the election affidavit, are ₹80 crores.
Savitri’s net worth is ₹270 crore, as declared in her affidavit filed on Thursday.
Savitri’s Hissar Journey
This is not the first time Savitri is contesting from Hisar. In the past, she was elected twice. In 2005, she was elected as a Congress MLA for the first time. She was re-elected in 2009 and became a minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in 2013. However, her winning streak ended in 2014, when she lost the assembly election.
Earlier this year, in March, when her son Naveen Jindal left the Congress party and joined the BJP, Savitri also quit the Congress.
“The Jindal family has always served Hisar. I am fully dedicated to living up to the expectations of the people and maintaining their trust,” said Savitri to reporters.
