In a rare turn of events, a cyber scammer found himself at the receiving end of a con after attempting to extort a man from Kanpur. What started as a blackmail attempt ended with the fraudster transferring Rs 10,000 to his would-be victim, who tricked him into believing a series of elaborate lies.
Bhupendra Singh, the man at the center of this unusual scam reversal, received a call from someone claiming to be a CBI officer. The caller alleged that Singh’s name was linked to explicit content and demanded Rs 16,000 to make the so-called complaint disappear. To add credibility to his threats, the scammer even sent a fake legal document.
Singh quickly checked the authenticity of the document using Google Lens and found it to be a forgery. Realizing he was dealing with a fraudster, he decided to turn the situation in his favor. Singh spun an emotional story, telling the scammer that he had pawned a gold chain and needed Rs 3,000 to retrieve it. Believing the lie, the scammer transferred the money.
Singh continued to come up with new excuses, each more convincing than the last, and managed to extract a total of Rs 10,000 from the fraudster. At one point, he even enlisted a friend to play the role of a jeweller to keep the ruse going.
A video of Singh narrating the entire episode quickly went viral, drawing laughter and admiration from social media users. In a time when digital scams are on the rise, Singh’s story serves as a refreshing reminder that quick thinking and presence of mind can sometimes beat even the most cunning fraudsters.
