Semiconductor Growth Next Phase Of India’s Tech Revolution, Says PM Modi

Date:

Sanand: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, calling it a landmark in India’s semiconductor journey and a key step toward technological self-reliance and a stronger global position in the chip value chain.

He said India is moving from products to components and now semiconductors, building a complete electronics value chain from design to fabrication and packaging.

Describing it as the next phase of “Make in India” and a roadmap for Viksit Bharat, he said the Semicon India programme is gaining rapid momentum with progress “step by step, brick by brick, chip by chip.”

Modi highlighted that the electronics revolution began over the last decade and has now expanded into semiconductor manufacturing, with mobile production rising 33 times and India becoming the world’s second-largest mobile producer and exporter.

Overall electronics production has grown nearly seven times since 2014, with exports rising eleven-fold.

He said the Sanand facility reflects strong domestic and international collaboration, including Japanese and Thai partners, and will scale production to meet ambitious targets.

He noted the emergence of a semiconductor cluster in Gujarat with firms like Micron, Kaynes, and CG Semi driving ecosystem growth.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of full supply chain self-reliance, youth-driven innovation in AI and robotics, and skill development.

He also highlighted inclusive growth, citing tribal women trained in advanced manufacturing. Modi reaffirmed policy stability and said India is firmly on track to become a developed nation by 2047.
