Mumbai: In a tragic fire accident on Sunday morning, seven members of the same family, including three children, lost their lives after a blaze engulfed a double-storey shop-cum-residential building in Chembur, Mumbai.
The fire, which occurred at around 5:20 am, started on the ground floor of the building, where an electrical short circuit led to the ignition of the shop’s wiring and installations. The fire quickly spread to the upper floor, which served as the family’s residence.

Two individuals who were sleeping on the ground floor managed to escape the inferno. Hemraj Singh Rajput, DCP Zone 6, confirmed that the police received a distress call around 6 am.
Officials categorized the fire as a ‘level one’ incident, with the damage largely contained to the electric wiring and installations on the ground floor. Authorities have identified the short circuit as the primary cause of the fire, but investigations will continue to rule out other potential factors.
This incident follows another fire accident on Saturday in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi, where a blaze erupted in a warehouse. While the cause of that fire is still under investigation, it has raised fresh concerns about fire safety in the region.
