Jaipur: At least seven people, including a child, lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a major fire broke out at the godown of an allegedly illegal cracker manufacturing unit on the outskirts of Jaipur on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Khoh Nagauriya area, where crackers produced at a nearby factory were reportedly being stored. Around 20 workers were present at the facility when the fire erupted at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Local residents, along with police and Civil Defence teams, rescued several workers, while others managed to escape. Residents also helped pull out severely burnt victims and rushed them to hospitals. The injured were first taken to nearby medical facilities, with critically injured patients later shifted to SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
According to hospital authorities, seven people, including a child, have died, while several others remain under treatment.
Eyewitnesses said local residents removed a gas cylinder from the burning premises, helping prevent a bigger disaster.
Senior administrative and police officials reached the site to oversee rescue efforts, while forensic teams began an investigation. Authorities stated that the cracker factory was allegedly operating illegally in a residential area. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed condolences over the tragedy.
