The meeting at Seva Teerth lasted around 25 minutes and came nearly 12 years after their last known interaction, triggering political speculation over Centre–state relations.
During the meeting, Vijay submitted a detailed petition highlighting key issues, including the Vande Mataram controversy, the Mekedatu dam dispute, defence sector projects, and the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
He also requested the Centre to allow the Tamil Nadu state anthem to be sung before Vande Mataram at official events, urging the Home Ministry to intervene.
On the Mekedatu issue, Vijay objected to Karnataka’s proposed project, citing Supreme Court orders, and asked the Union government to prevent its clearance without consensus from all stakeholders. He also pushed for establishing a DRDO-linked CABS facility in Tamil Nadu under ongoing AMCA-related studies.
The Chief Minister raised concern over 58 Tamil Nadu fishermen currently jailed in Sri Lanka and the seizure of 288 boats, seeking urgent intervention for their release.
Vijay’s visit follows his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as the single largest force with 108 seats and forming a coalition government with Congress and Left allies after a trust vote on May 13. He is also expected to meet senior national leaders during his Delhi tour.
