New Delhi: Sudipto Sen, director of ‘The Kerala Story’, reacted to the ban in West Bengal, saying it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister, without watching the film, has banned it in the state. This comes after the film was banned in West Bengal.
Sen further went on to say, “Not a single untoward incident has happened in the state because of the film. The decision to ban the film is politically motivated. I request that she watch the film and then make any decision.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee banned the film in the state on Monday, saying the decision was taken to maintain peace and prevent any hate crimes and violence from happening.
The film producer Vipul Shah, reacting to the ban on Monday, said, “If that is what she has done, we will take legal action. Whatever is possible under the provisions of the law, we will fight.” Shah further went on to say, “Our film isn’t against any community or religion but against terrorism,” and the government has to give a reason as to why they banned the film.
While the film has been banned in West Bengal and has not been screened in multiplexes across Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh had made the film tax-free.
