New Delhi: A ransomware group has reportedly leaked thousands of files linked to India’s largest nuclear power plant on the dark web, raising fresh cybersecurity concerns. Sources quoted by reports said the leaked data was claimed to have come from Reliance Group, one of the contractors involved in the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant project in Tamil Nadu.
Reliance Group said there was a “partial breach” involving data stored on a server hosted by third-party data centre provider Yotta. The company added that the government has been informed but did not disclose the specific data that was compromised.
Sources quoted by reports said the leaked cache contains around 19,000 files, including alleged facility blueprints, supplier details, meeting records, equipment reviews and insurance-related documents. The report said the files were reviewed, but their authenticity could not be independently verified.
Yotta said it detected suspicious activity on a Reliance Infrastructure server on May 29 and immediately stopped the suspected ransomware attempt. It added that an investigation is continuing after claims of a data breach surfaced.
Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is investigating the incident. The report added that the leaked documents do not appear to involve the nuclear reactors’ core systems but may reveal details related to support infrastructure and suppliers.
