Muzaffarpur: At least three people were killed after a major fire broke out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district early Wednesday, officials said.
The blaze erupted at Prasad Hospital, triggering panic among patients, attendants and hospital staff. Firefighters and emergency response teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue and firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the facility.
According to Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen, three deaths have been confirmed so far, while authorities fear the toll could rise as assessments continue.
“A massive fire broke out in the ICU of Prasad Hospital. Firefighting teams reached the site promptly and succeeded in bringing the situation under control. Based on reports received till now, three people have lost their lives,” Sen said.
Several patients were evacuated from the hospital as rescue personnel worked through the affected areas. Officials are yet to disclose the identities of the deceased, and the exact number of injured remains unclear.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary details regarding the source of the blaze have not been released.
The incident comes less than 24 hours after a devastating fire at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar claimed 21 lives, raising fresh concerns over fire safety compliance in public buildings and healthcare facilities.
