New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the BJP’s landmark victory in West Bengal, calling it a major political achievement.
Following BJP’s first-ever win in the state, the White House described the result as both “historic” and “decisive.” In a message shared by White House spokesman Kush Desai, Trump praised Modi’s leadership and said, “Just last month on their phone call, President Trump expressed to Prime Minister Modi his admiration and how lucky India is to have him as its leader. The President congratulates Prime Minister Modi on this recent, historic, and decisive election victory.”
The BJP’s win ends Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year rule in West Bengal and marks the party’s first control of the politically crucial state.
Reacting to the victory, PM Modi addressed supporters in New Delhi and said, “A new chapter has been added to Bengal’s destiny. People’s power has prevailed and BJP’s politics of good governance has triumphed. I bow to each and every person of West Bengal.”
The Bengal result is being seen as a major boost for Modi during his third term.
